Ways to Help
As a small non-profit with big goals, we are always looking for people to help.
Areas where we would love your help!
Become a Tutor
All that is required of our tutors is that they have a genuine desire to connect and help children who are struggling academically.
No teaching qualifications are necessary. Although a high school education is preferable, it is not necessary when tutoring younger age groups. If the tutoring is done virtually, a certain level of computer literacy is important.
We ask for a commitment of one semester but within this period there is flexibility to rearrange sessions.
We also would appreciate help in identifying other people who may wish to become tutors, or organizations that would be happy to hear a presentation from one of our team.
Identify Schools
If you know of a school, particularly in an under-resourced area, whose students might benefit from individualized weekly tutoring under their teacher’s guidance, please contact us.
We will arrange for one of our team to follow-up with the school representative.
Donate
Although all tutors, board members and organizers volunteer their time, some funds are needed for program expenses.
Donate to Mindful Community Tutors via GoFundMe…
Donated funds will be used for the direct benefit of children, including:
- Supplies for tutors such as whiteboards, books, and little rewards for the children at the end of the session.
- Supplying technology and wifi for virtual tutoring for children who have none available.
- Online subscriptions for children’s educational aids.
- Providing transportation for tutors to visit schools in person, as needed.
- Offering scholarships for summer school enrichment tuition.
- Promotional costs of recruiting both senior volunteers and participating schools.
- There will also be a minimum amount of funds allocated to keeping the website running and other necessary technological and administrative expenses
Technology Assistance
Some of our tutors may need a little help in navigating the virtual platforms, such as screen sharing videos, using reading websites and the like. If you or someone you know is willing to help by donating their services on an occasional basis with this, we would be very grateful.
Grant Applications
Mindful Community Tutors is looking for volunteers to identify grant opportunities. If you know of one that would be appropriate for our organization please contact us.
We would also appreciate if we could find volunteers to submit grant applications. If you feel you could help with this, please contact us
