Who We Are

Mindful Community Tutors (MCT) mission is to enhance academic skills and overall well-being by providing free coaching, tutoring and a joyful connection between seniors and children.

Over recent years, there have been numerous media accounts highlighting how children are falling behind in education and seniors are becoming increasingly isolated, purposeless and depressed. Mindful Community Tutors was created to address these issues in a way that would be beneficial to both age groups.

“I wanted to get involved with Mindful Community Tutors when I saw a piece pointing out how far behind many children had slipped because of COVID and how they may never catch up. I saw it as an opportunity to become part of something that could address this issue, that could energize seniors and that could help beleaguered teachers.”

“I wanted to get involved with Mindful Community Tutors because I have been looking for a way to express my gratitude for having been so fortunate in my life. My mother and my niece were both highly skilled teachers who frequently talked about students who were struggling with academics and thereby risked falling behind for a lifetime. When I heard about Mindful Community Tutors’ approach, I enthusiastically offered to participate. The program has the added benefits of supporting teachers. For me, it is a match made in heaven.

With the combined support of classroom teachers and parents, students can jump start and even accelerate progress that has stalled or become interrupted. Incorporating mindfulness in the tutoring process is an exciting life skill to be shared and practiced.”
