Mindfulness for Kids
What are the benefits and how to do it.
Mindfulness is paying attention with kindness, non-judgment and calm focus on what is going on in the present moment.
In 1979 Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, founded of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, started a program of mindfulness. He helped to bring the practice into mainstream medicine, and increasingly there have been many clinical trials demonstrating the effectiveness of a regular mindfulness practice to improve physical health as well as psychological well-being.

In our tutoring sessions we devote the last five minutes to a mindfulness exercise.
We explain to the child why we are doing it, and have had very positive results with them. Both they and their parents tell us that they are doing the exercises at other times in their daily life.
We are sowing the seeds of a skill that they can take with them throughout their lives.
